Hybrid collectors are relatively new on the market and were developed on the basis of thermal collectors. They generate not only heat but also electricity with the help of photovoltaic cells. They are used for more complex solar thermal applications. Hybrid collectors are well suited for combination with heat pumps. According to the manufacturers, a major advantage is that the photovoltaic cells operate at a higher efficiency due to the dissipation of heat.
Which collector type is ultimately the most suitable depends on the available space, the planned application, the way it is integrated into the building and the climate zone, i.e. the amount of radiation. The yield to be achieved – in addition to the available space – will be the decisive factor in the selection of the collector.
